The Motive Behind Mark Zuckerberg's Initiative to Introduce Premium WhatsApp Business Accounts
Mark Zuckerberg's Plan to Introduce Premium WhatsApp Business Accounts Meta, the parent company overseeing WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, has revealed its upcoming introduction of verification badges for WhatsApp Business accounts, aimed at eliminating impersonation.
Why Mark Zuckerberg Plans to Introduce Premium Accounts for WhatsApp Business
During a media briefing on September 20, 2023, Nikila Srinivasan, the Vice President of Business Messaging at Meta, announced this new feature and its imminent availability to users. This initiative is designed to empower businesses to establish their legitimacy and credibility when interacting with customers on WhatsApp.
To obtain verification, businesses must undergo a validation process to confirm the authenticity of their operations. In return, they will receive a verified badge, enhanced account support, and protection against impersonation.
Meta has outlined additional benefits for businesses adopting this new feature, including the ability to create a personalized WhatsApp webpage, which can be easily found on the internet, and support for multi-device usage, allowing multiple employees to efficiently respond to customer inquiries.
Initially, Meta intends to test this feature with small businesses before progressively rolling it out to larger enterprises on the WhatsApp Business Platform in the future.
Furthermore, Meta is introducing "Flows," a feature that enables businesses to offer a comprehensive array of services within the chat interface, without requiring users to navigate away from the conversation. Srinivasan explained, "With flows, businesses can provide rich menus and customizable forms that support different needs. We'll make Flows available to businesses worldwide using the WhatsApp Business Platform in the coming weeks."
In a related development, Meta has extended its paid verification badge service to businesses on Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently announced that the company would charge up to KSh 5,000 for verification on both Instagram and Facebook. Previously, Meta introduced "Meta Verified" for creators at a monthly fee of $12 (KSh 1,768), granting verified users access to perks such as priority customer support and impersonation protection.
This service is now being expanded to businesses, offering Facebook or Instagram verification for $22 (KSh 3,242) per month or $35 (KSh 5,157) for verification on both platforms, as reported by the Verge.
